Keating Resources Invests in Downtown Spearfish, South Dakota

Press, Legacy | September 28, 2023

Alec Keating, the President of family-owned Keating Resources (www.keatingresources.com), has announced a new investment in the historic town of Spearfish, South Dakota. Keating Resources recently acquired the long-vacant 6,300-square-foot building, located at 714 North Main Street, with a rich history as the former home of retail giants Radio Shack (www.radioshack.com) and Sears (www.sears.com).

The 100-year-old building, a testament to Spearfish’s rich heritage, is set to undergo a restoration project that will bring it back to its original two-tenant design. The restoration aims to preserve the building’s historical charm while modernizing it to meet the needs of today’s businesses and residents.

Keating expressed his enthusiasm for this project, stating, “We are thrilled to invest in the heart of Spearfish, a town with such a vibrant history and a promising future. Our goal is to honor the legacy of this building while also contributing to the town’s ongoing growth and prosperity.”

Upon completion of the restoration, the building will be divided equally between two tenants. One of these tenants will be the well-known Spearfish-based children’s play center, Jitter Joint Play Cafe (www.jitterjointplay.com), providing a fun and safe environment for local children and families to enjoy. The second tenant will be an office space for Keating Resources, further strengthening the company’s presence in the region.

Since 2020, Keating has invested in various properties in Spearfish, Deadwood, Lead, and Custer, demonstrating their commitment to the economic development and vitality of these communities.

The Keating family and Keating Resources are dedicated to preserving the historical significance of this iconic building and fostering an environment that benefits both residents and local businesses in Spearfish.
