The Deadwood Landmark Casino Opens Its Doors in Historic Downtown Deadwood
Press, Legacy | November 30, 2023
After 3 years of construction and restoration, The Deadwood Landmark Casino opened its doors on November 13 in historic downtown Deadwood. Managing Partner Gerard Keating spearheaded the opening ceremony of The Landmark’s first floor, introducing the skilled team led by industry veteran Elena Dagit, with over 300 guests in attendance.
Located on Sherman Street, in Deadwood’s largest historic building, the 35,000-square-foot structure features a state-of-the-art gaming floor with over 110 slot machines, sports betting, and a spectacular bar. The first floor was beautifully designed by the acclaimed Las Vegas-based Cunningham Architects and Rapid City-based Chamberlin Architects, offering a premier gaming experience in Deadwood and preserving the building’s rich history. Once associated with W.E. Adams, a prominent figure in Deadwood’s storied past, the structure itself is a testament to the city’s enduring legacy.
This project has been made possible in part through the support of the City of Deadwood’s Historic Preservation Commission, which funded the restoration of three historic ghost murals, a historic vault glass feature in the exterior entryway, the reconstruction of 11 exterior doors, among other critical restoration efforts.
The Deadwood Landmark Casino project represents the culmination of a dedicated effort led by the Keating, Chvala, and Mendlik families. This ownership group is deeply committed to providing a premier level of hospitality and entertainment in Deadwood while preserving this landmark property’s historical integrity.
Looking ahead, The Deadwood Landmark Casino has ambitious plans for expansion. Level 2, set to open on Super Bowl weekend on Friday, February 9, will introduce live table games and a sportsbook. Levels 3 and 4 are set to open May 15 with 23 custom hotel rooms, plus 7 rooms in an adjacent building. These expansions will elevate The Landmark as a leading upscale gaming and lodging destination in Deadwood.
Guests are invited to enjoy complimentary champagne in the month of November. It is also worth noting that our Players Club is unique in its offerings, with special rewards and programs designed specifically for Veterans and Military personnel.
